Dr. Selman Nas, who recently joined the Aerospace Engineering Department, has industry experience as well as an academic career. Selman Nas served as the Executive Vice President responsible for Space Systems at Turkish Aerospace Industries between 2016 and 2023 and led Turkish Aerospace in the field of Communications and Earth Observation Satellites Program. In addition, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors at GSATCOM Space Technologies, Chairman of the Board of Directors at C2Tech Information Technologies, Board Member at DeltaV Space Technologies and Member of the Steering Commitee for Defense Industries in Defense Industries Agency. In the field of airline management, he has 8 years of experience in Turkish Airlines as Vice President of Training Directorate and Quality Assurance Directorate. Dr. Selman Nas was a faculty member in Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics for 13 years between 1995 and 2008. During this time, he also served as a Faculty Executive Board Member and Faculty Board Member. He has academic experience as a Research Assistant Professor in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas Children's Hospital, Department of Pediatric Cardiology. 

Furthermore, he has experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Management, Management Systems, Compliance Monitoring in Air Transportation, Product Life Cycle Management, Program Management, High Performance Computing, Database Systems, Visual Programming, Non-Linear Methods and their Applications in Physiology and Medicine. Selman Nas' current interests are Fluid Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer, Aerodynamics, Finite Volume Methods, Finite Difference Methods in Multiphase Flows, High Performance Computing, Communication and Observation Satellites. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Selman Nas, who has both management and academic experience throughout his career, received his bachelor's degree from Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Department of Aeronautical Engineering in 1987, his master's degree and his doctorate degree from the University of Michigan, Department of Aerospace Engineering in 1990, and in 1995 respectively.

 

 



Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hande GIRARD ​

 Dr. Yavuz received her associate professor title in Aerospace Engineering in 2022. She received Ph.D. with High Honors from Ecole Centrale Paris (CentraleSupélec) CNRS UMR 8579 Mechanics of Soils, Structures and Materials in 2012. She was Ph.D. fellow of French Government (CNOUS) from 2008 to 2012. She completed her Ph.D. studies in the frame of an ANR Project (contact grant no. ANR-08-MAPR-0025) coordinated by EADS France (Airbus Group) during her doctoral studies in France. In her thesis, she developed DBD assisted plasma modified hybrid materials for aircraft structures. She conducted research in the area of composite structures, plasma processing, materials characterization, and experimental mechanics at École Normale Supérieure de Cachan PPSM CNRS UMR 8531, Ecole Centrale Paris CNRS UMR 8579, Supelec LGEP CNRS UMR 8507, and ICM Paris-Est MCMC CNRS UMR 7182. Her M.Sc. studies was supported by The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (contact grant no. BOREN-2006-Ç-02). She earned M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from Gazi University in 2007 and 2005, respectively. She held certificates in Aerospace Applications of Systems Engineering and Project Management for Aerospace Professionals both from the University of Kansas in 2013 and Data Science from Booz Allen Hamilton in 2015. 

She worked as a Technical Consultant and Project Coordinator at the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries from 2012 to 2015. Previously, she worked as a Technical Coordination Engineer at Turkish Armed Forces 901st Main Maintenance Center Command. She was in charge of big data analytics research team at STM Inc. during 2015. She delivered several courses at University of Turkish Aeronautical Association such as Aircraft Structures, Finite Element Method, Impact Dynamics and Spacecraft Protection, and Composites Materials for about 5 years. She joined Ostim Technical University Department of Aerospace Engineering as a full time faculty member in 2021.

She serves as a referee for the Journal of Applied Polymer Science (Print ISSN: 0021-8995), Communications Faculty of Sciences University of Ankara Series A2-A3 Physical Sciences and Engineering (Print ISSN 1303-6009), Steel and Composite Structures, An International Journal (Print ISSN: 1229-9367), Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology (ISSN 0002-2667) and Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies (Print ISSN 2374-068X). Upon invitation of Taylor and Francis/CRC Press Publisher, she acts as an Editor of “Engineering Applications in Advanced Structural Materials” titled scientific book.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Hikmet BAL (Vice Chairman)

Dr. Hikmet Bal graduated with bachelor degree from Mechanical Engineering Department of Gazi University Engineering Faculty in 2002. He gained his MSc degree in 2006 in the same department with a study on vision system. In 2019, he received his PhD degree in Mechanical Dynamics and Theory field by his study on the vibration behavior of shaft-bearing systems from Mechanical Engineering Department of Gazi University. He gained a multidisciplinary work experience by working as a technical staff and project engineer on information technology systems and HVAC projects in government and private sector for a long time. He worked as a tactical unmanned air vehicle operating technical staff and expert engineer in government and private sector as well. He conducts research in the areas of multibody dynamics and vibration of mechanical system, vision system and signal processing, unmanned air vehicles.

 


Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhammed ELMNEFI​

Dr. Muhammed Elmnefi received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Bright Star University (Libya) in 1986, his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics from the Energy Systems Department of the University of Strathclyde (Scotland) in 1996, and his Doctor of Engineering (Dr.- Ing.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany) in 2010.

 He worked as a mechanical engineer in a petroleum company providing operation and maintenance services for gas turbines between 1986 and 1994. Since 1996, when he received his master's degree, he has worked as a project engineer in at the same petroleum company. After receiving his doctorate degree, he worked as a full time a faculty member at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Benghazi University (Libya) until the end of 2015. During this period, he also served as Head of the Department for 2 years. He came to Turkey in 2015 and joined the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at the Turkish Aeronautical Association University until the summer of 2023. Dr. Muhammed joined the OSTİM Technical University, Department of Aerospace Engineering as a full-time faculty member in September 2023.

 He has 9 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, and 3 of these articles were published in journals included in the SCI-Expanded index list. Dr. Muhammed ELMNEFİ has 16 papers presented at international scientific meetings and published in the proceedings book. Additionally, he supervised 7 master’s and 1 PhD students during the 8 years he was a faculty member at the Turkish Aeronautical Association University. His main research areas are Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Utilizing nanofluids for improving the thermal efficiency of various heat transfer systems such as heat exchangers and parabolic solar collectors, Internal Combustion Engines, Propulsion Systems, and Renewable Energy (Wind Energy, Wind Turbine and Solar Energy).

 Research Assistant Mehmet Turan EKİNCİ

​As of May 2024, Mehmet Turan Ekinci began working as a Research Assistant in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Ostim Technical University. Between November 2022 and June 2023, he served as a candidate engineer at Turkish Aerospace Industries.

 In 2024, Research Assistant Mehmet Turan Ekinci started his master's degree in the Department of Aircraft Engineering at Necmettin Erbakan University. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Aircraft Engineering from Necmettin Erbakan University in 2023.

Research Assistant İdil Sena DURUKAN

As of October 2024, İdil Sena Durukan began working as a Research Assistant in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Ostim Technical University. She completed her undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering at Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology University, where she began her studies in 2018 and graduated as the top student in her faculty in 2023. In the same year, she started her master’s degree in Aircraft Engineering within the Department of Aerospace at Erciyes University.

During her undergraduate studies, she became a finalist in the METU-Boeing VTOL competitions, the TEKNOFEST International Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Competition, and the TEKNOFEST Blockchain competition.​
